To Sleep
The coming and going is fleeting,
somewhere in time's mist, I am.
remembered or forgotten by all
memories seem precious, to my soul
they're looked upon with regret and forgiveness
The current of life came and went,
I stood on its banks, watched it pass
It carried to many yesterdays filled with false hope,
either by design or lack of understanding
How sad reflections can be,
measured by the shadow of dreams
To many thoughts that had no purpose
they cluttered the landscape of my mind
Frivolous encounters with token destiny
Mountains created and climbed without help
Lost in the drifting jungle of civilization
Alone in its caverns of trash,
where tears fell to many times
To yearn for something that can't be held
caressed by beauty as it sadly leaves
To wander street to street, without hope
watching the sun setting, always setting
as darkness became a friend not sought
like pain felt from the first slap from a parent
Given life again in days of youth
when distance was a face drifting in the night
and love was a floating leaf, never caught
when tears fell dripping slowly towards earth
caught only in empty palms of despair
hoping to close my eyes to the world
to sleep, to never breathe again, to sleep
contest Own It
