To Never Fade

To Never Fade Old men have still the memories of times When strength of mind and body still abide. Yet quiet times can steal away the will And waste away what yet remains undone. Caught up in just surviving day to day And mapping out the rest of times ahead. It’s easy to just pass the times away Until old age is always on your mind. Then Spring arrives to catch you by surprise. You want to run, to swim, to climb that hill, And watch the sunset breach across the waves And hold the hand of one you’ll always love. Get up! Go out and try to catch that wave. And write the song you’ve always wanted sung. And fight the fight to thrive- to never fade. An old man still but dancing in the sun.

Hi Richard: Such poetic wisdom where I can really relate. Especially the last stanza. I just look forward to waking up and seizing the day with at least 50 percent gusto and I coined a phrase and you can quote me, "I'M NOT AGING , I'M EVOLVING!'

Thanks, Ralph. Love your saying- so true as we get older. Still working my way through your excellent poems. Favorites so far are 50,s and Eating Twinkies with God. Thanks for the visit and kind comments.

What beautiful imagery. The last two lines just resonate this wonderful feeling. Carpe Diem comes to mind. I love this.

Thanks, Briana. I see you've added two more poems with equally imaginative titles and continued strong passion! Thanks for visiting and the nice comment.

Ah, perhaps we can, or cannot. But don't we all need a reason to get out of bed in the morning? Nice work, Richard

Allan, thanks for the comment. I wanted that poem to be seen at least once. I have now found your poems and think we share some introspection, or age? Although I loved "surfing" my favorite of your poems is "Oceans Wave".
