To My Sister

My beautiful sister, do you remember that day? That terrifying day death tried to take you away? I'll never forget that look on your face And the only words I could speak were, "are you okay?" I'll never forget the bottles, empty of pills I picture that room, and I get covered in chills. I can't imagine how it could possibly feel You cheated death, and that's surreal. And there you were painted with bruises Because of a boy, a coward, that abuses. You tried to tell me a million excuses But all you were is someone that uses. I'll forever have these images engrained in my head I'm so thankful that you are not dead. And I'm sure you are sleeping softly in bed Because you are better now, no more tears to shed.

It sounds like your sister went through hell... some of it of her own making, but still. I'm glad she has recovered. I wish you and her all the best. Keith

The sad scourge of domestic and gender violence is disgusting. I can never see where it can ever be seen as acceptable by the perpetrator, did he beat his mother? My late wife counselled many victims of this hate crime and the hardest thing to do was to break the emotional hold of the violent partner and enable the victim to free herself. I feel the police and society should do more starting early at schools to educate the young that this so unacceptable. Kind regards, Ian
