To Lose
I take a bite into a new bullet,
I let its inner substance take my voice away,
Until I am left with your awful taste-
I want to lose today
I know all this effort was for your gain,
I have walked these bridges of woe and pain
Captured in your wiles of delirious plot-
I plagued you for a reason to remain
Catching your fire with my broken soul,
I bought time for you to talk some more
Till you were no longer a talk,
But a listen between our life and the door
Matching your storm to my calm,
Crashing my waves to your rocks,
I felt the need to lose
Every moment you breathe in a breath
I must catch my share of your blues
I run yet still- to lose
I cry ‘til I’m dry- to lose
I fly ‘til I’m gone- to lose
I bleed ‘til I numb-to lose
I break into the sun-to lose
I fight always-to lose
I live always-to lose
To lose, is to downright refuse
To become the growing chaos
That you put all your miserable listeners through
To win over your heart is to cross the threshold
Between a life unwanted and a goal desolately attained
And yet every victor after their relief of winning
Who claims to earn your war-struck love,
Must suffer the consequences
Must suffer the dismal aftertaste
Of your inevitable fall
And rage
