To Know Each Other
I see the windows open wide
and wonder what could be inside,
but time is slow and we don't speak.
I could ask you why I catch you often
gazing upon me and then begin to soften,
but I am too afraid of something I can't identify.
It could be you unfamiliar personality and features
or it could be the nasty, hiding, fearsome creatures
that live inside my head and tease me all the time.
Of course it could just truly not be the right time
of perhaps this mountain we must now climb,
but probably it is the invisible wall sitting here.
Oh how I loathe that invisible wall all day
it prevents us from saying what we wish to say,
but it could be you and me letting fear win.
We should not let fear win like that
and speak what is in the hat
so we may know each other.
