To Have Or Have Not
Vacant hearts can lessen scars along the way
Avoiding risks from pain when love's let in
Yet, how can life be lived before the grave
Whose mission is avoiding life's intent
Though closeness lends itself to greater loss
What yields life's journey rapt in solitaire?
To obviate a puppy for its claws
Or spurn the hand with naught but love to share
Indeed, the heart might ache ten thousand times
For one so blessed to have that many friends
But he who knew them not already died
Avoiding grief, but lonely 'til the end
