Ties
Ties
Ties
Cat peers through my window,
hazy autumn sky behind.
rooftops slumber
helpless in their elegance.
Patterns from a life far behind.
stamp collections,
meals eaten alone, with others
smiling under cover
of my song.
Overdue library books,
cobwebs swept from corners.
Spider dashes away:
"No, don't kill it!"
What does it all mean?
The raincoats, bad sitcoms,
falling in love.
Dust scattered on an empty sea.
We descend
or rise
free of ties.
Without commutes, vacuums
and unpaid bills.
All this I'm thinking,
as the cat stares.
Wonders why I'm in a cage.
Patters away as I finish my tea
and the day begins.
