Tides
Tides
By Kevin Robey
September 23, 2013
Standing in the aftermath of this battle scene
Filled with the ashes of all that was serene
Bloodied and broken our faces evidence alone
To crimes committed, with no means to atone
With shadows and footsteps haunting my thoughts
It’s time to move on to horizons that I sought
Where the sun is always rising and filling my mind
With grand designs of signs to signal better times
The cost of our loss still leaves us in a better place
Again as friends the past won’t seem like such a waste
We once built our dreams upon distant sandy shores
They sank into tides from demons that wanted more
You drove home the nail, while I was fighting time
Through tooth and nail we couldn't find the shine
The flame left our breath as soon as the sunshine left
Our bright eyes went grey, apparent victims of theft
Seems to be hopeless now, no silver lining to see
But I smile as I write this through every part of me
The defiant voice that screams into the chilly night
I’ll never surrender my weary soul without a fight
Remaining through time like demons nursery rhymes
The scars on my skin speak of mountains That I've climbed
I’ll put them behind because I’m no cautionary tale
Hold your hand in mine while we blaze a brand-new trail
Follow me, I know the way from here
Wherever you are, as long as you're near
