Three Gifts

If I could give you three gifts To give your life a lift They would be; A Love of Democracy, A passion for Democracy, And a belief in Democracy. A Love of Democracy will soften and gladden your heart, You will want to nurture and protect it And help it grow, Polish it til it starts to glow, So others can see it and love it as much as you and keep it close to their heart. A Passion for democracy Will endear you to others, As you spread word of it's virtues, It will give courage and strength to stand tall And never let it fall. A belief in democracy will stop you from being a dictator in your own home And you will never be quite alone, As you truly listen to the views of others And support them when it matters. I was given these same three gifts Which I take with me wherever I go In sunshine or in snow. They lead me to all the places where love grows, Passion flows And belief is written on every leaf.
