This Race
OF THE RACE
Of the race I think I ran
Across life’s highway at full throttle
Sometimes with tears blocking my way
And others with a smile lighting my life
T’was never good all da time
Not always rosy or cozy
Sometimes it stung me w’ere it hurt
And by golly I learned to hold it in
This race I ran taught me to love
Taught me to hate to, hate in equal measure too
I learned the sting of peoples hate
And learned the warmth of being loved
This race will come to end
And I, will I miss it wen it’s gone?
To the bitter sweet memories I’ll always cling
As the end of this race I await.
