This love, like a candle burning in the night

This love, like a candle burning in the night, Ephemeral, sweet, desperate in its glow, Like a dream that fades at the dawn's first light, In the velvety waves of a slumbering night. This love, as brilliant as the sun on summer days, And gray as a clouded sky on an autumn afternoon, So true, so resplendent in its shining ways, Like a Renaissance painting at the dusk of an olden epoch. Joyous in its outpour, innocent and vibrant with hue, Like a child's smile on a fresh spring morning, But standing there, unsure and fearful too, Fragile as a flower petal in the wind's gentle warning. This love that makes many feel the dread, And some to curse under the pale moon's gaze, Nestled deep within our souls, it has said, Like a flame that persists in the cold wind's dispraise. Even when it's trampled, denied, and forgotten, It persists, never losing its luster, never its might, Unlocking the gates of a love new, fresh, and unrodden, Like the waves that embrace our shores with endless delight. Yes, my love, I implore you, keep this love alive, Let it shine from your soul and find its way to mine, Even when we are apart, Even with eyes closed, asleep, thinking of you is divine. When evening quiets, and the moon gleams above, I pray, do not forget our love, This eternal radiance that knows no end, Still so vivid, so bright, It's your love, it's my love, for those who were and will be in sight. This thing eternal, unbounded and unchanged, As real as a dream in the springtime rays, A love in which we still warm our souls, against the world's cold waged, I beg you, love, let us not grow cold in our ways, Wherever we are, however far we stray, Always, always keep this love in stay, And every day, give us a sign of life's lay, And we will save each other, now and for all of our days. Love, I implore you, do not forget the pure shine, You, who know not the serene end, remain ever sure, Persist alive, intensely illuminated, like a star in the clear night, You, my love, our everlasting memory.
