Thinner

Thinner than a shadow, the man in the mirror, where did all the flesh go? Consumed? Consumed by what? it begs the question, he needs to glut, that's my suggestion. He's up all night, he sleeps all day, when does he eat? I'm just saying. His bones look like pin cushions, his eyes are small and red, If I didn't know better, I'd swear that he was dead. Thinner than a shadow, the man in the mirror, I know that if the wind blows, he's bound to fly away. Take him to McDonalds, get him a Big Mac, if he does one more single line, he'll have a heart attack. Thinner than a shadow, the man in the mirror, wait a minute, look! He disappeared!!

I grew up in a family cursed by addiction. I wrote a book called "DUMMY hurtful and healing words" which deals with my coming out of that life. I think you would very much relate to it.

This poem brings to mind my wife's clients. She works with clients with Anorexia. Reading your comment I am sure that is not the topic you were writing about but there are many ways to make ourselves disappear. Yes God is indeed good if only we allow ourselves to fall into His mercy.

This was written about addiction particularly to cocaine. I was an addict for almost thirty years. Now I am a counselor at a christian based rehab for men. I tried everything the world had to offer to change and nothing worked. God is the only thing that I found made a difference in my life. thanks for the comment

I too read and enjoyed Stephen King's book Thinner. But I wasn't thinking of it necessarily when I wrote "Thinner". It's just about my struggle with addiction. I tried to be a little light about it but it's still a dark subject to address. I am after almost thirty years of druggin' a counselor at a christian based rehab for men and have turned all that anguish into a tool for change in others lives as well as my own. thanks for your comment

That is very interesting, the lines "thinner that a shadow, the man in the mirror..." it draws in the reading and bridges the poem together. Nicely done.

he's been gone almost two years now. I am after almost thirty years drugging a counselor at a Christian based rehab for men. I still can't believe how good God is. Thanks for the comment. God Bless!
