In the year, 1961; the City of Belize was devastated by Hurricane Hattie.

The British Militia patrolled the streets, and instilled curfew

United States helicoptors flew overhead morning, noon, and night, and gave support.

They rejoiced, for he was strong and able They rejoiced, for he knew enough They rejoiced he was home long before the season They rejoiced that day, their house had firm mahogany legs. They rejoiced. They rejoiced the worst had passed They rejoiced the sea knew its place They rejoiced for the roof over their heads They rejoiced even as the smell of burnt flesh lingered. They rejoiced. They rejoiced for the saved, while his name was forgotten They rejoiced as he came stripped of his shirt and wearing no shoes They rejoiced the sea was good to him They rejoiced for not remembering They rejoiced like never before. They rejoiced, they rejoiced, they rejoiced. * (c)2002, For my Father, Anthony Augustus Solomon Sankey

What an awesome tribute to your father! The wind and waves when whipped up by the hurricane wind -- strike with such furry! I was born the same year as Hattie! Loved the poem. 7
