They Ask Me
They ask me if I’m “fine”
And I say I don’t know what that means
They ask me if I “forgive them”
And I say I don’t know what that means
They ask me if I know what “love” is
And I say I don’t know what that means
I honestly don’t think they do either.
They seem more clueless than I do.
At least I can walk these streets knowing who I am
And that no one can take that away from me
But they don’t know that
So they lose their identities
I am fine, I don’t forgive them, and I do know what love is
But their questions are so broad I can’t answer them
Love is something they’ll never truly know
A blessing from God that they won’t be blessed with
They don’t deserve to be anyway
But then they ask me what love is
But darling I haven’t got a clue
And neither have you.
