These Red Brick Walls

These red brick walls have stood for nearly 100 years, they have seen and absorbed happiness and tears, if these walls could talk, just imagine what they could say, a lifetime of cherished memories have not faded away. I wonder, if 100 years from now, will I still be around, maybe a part of my secrets will be waiting to be found, my written words are embedded in the room where I slept, all of those midnight thoughts and dreams will be here kept. The window that brought new inspirations into my soul, and the closed door that opened to my heart's empty hole, from the wooden boards of the floor and up to the ceiling, these walls of red bricks hold secrets that need revealing.

Hi, Kelly. Very nice poem with so much to be imagined. There are many stories that could be told behind the walls of the walls of the old homes that have absorbed thoughts and feelings that we can only imagine. But as writers we may have the ability to bring those stories to light. You are a fine writer and I enjoy reading your poetry.... Robert.

I think it is fun to tell a story and leave some things hidden so that the reader can imagine and draw their own conclusions... I do appreciate your wonderful comments, Robert. Thank you so much. I'm so glad that you are enjoying my work!

Having read the companion piece first. I see a maturing of thought in the second piece. The poet in the walls is not as seductive. Which makes sense since you just met. heehee. They are perfect companion pieces. I will keep my eyes in case there are more on the way. Also a very belated congratulations on your past win. I wasn't here then or I would of showed up sooner.

I like your red revelations Kelly. Bricks are so beautiful and strong, like many of our secrets and truths. I wouldn't mind dying along a brick wall. J.A.B.

Yes, they are Justin. I moved into this brick house about 10 years ago, and I have felt a sense of protection and strength ever since then. And as far as I know, I will probably die inside these brick walls, one day.... Thank you for your beautiful comments, Justin. I appreciate it very much!

Thank you for the great comments, Vera. I'm so glad you enjoyed this poem.... I do believe that all houses are "haunted" by the things that have happened there over the years. If those walls could tell me their secrets, I think that I would sit and listen all day long....

A phrase comes to mind : The ghost of immortality. I think that since we are really only passing through, we seek to be remembered, each in our own small ways contributing to leaving evidence of our sojourn. If only ancient walls could talk ! Kelly, this is vibrant and very well may become part of your own little corner in literary heaven. I love it !

I agree with you, Keith. We are only here for a short time, and we want it known that we did live. Perhaps our lives were meant for an important reason, and not to be forgotten.... Thank you so much for the wonderful comments, Keith. They really meant a lot to me!

This is beautiful, Kelly; I am sure that many of us will relate to these lines. No doubt that the poetic spirit will cling to those walls and perhaps inspire others who in time will be lucky enough to 'share' your room. Most of all touched by the final stanza! // paul
