There's Never Been a Time

There's never been a time I didn't love you. No time at all, and foolish as it seems, No day goes by when I'm not thinking of you, No night when you don't occupy my dreams. Too young, I fell in love with love's illusion; Naïve to think that such a dream could last. I know I should dismiss my heart's confusion, Move on with life, stop living in the past. They say the first love is the best remembered, Time heals all wounds, and broken hearts will mend. Perhaps there'll come a time when I don't love you, Perhaps that's when eternity will end.

Who’s to say a crush isn’t love? Yet the past is past. A new fragrance appears! Imbibe it! Warmest congratulations on POTW, Jim, enjoyed your exquisite poem immensely

Love is a powerful emotion indeed, and when you're very young; you don't truly understand how delicate it is. Your thoughts caress softly around me and my heart. This is beautiful and tender, all at the same time. Congratulations Jim, on Poem of the Week. My best to you. Hugs, Brandy

Thanks, Linda. So often, I fear, when one is very young, an "illusion" is all love is.

I think “they” who say our first love is remembered are correct. Those memories have a special place in our hearts that can never be erased. Congratulations on your beautiful lines being the choice for poem of the week, Jim.

“Until death do we part” - not sure that true love ends then but perhaps the book is closed. The chapters that follow leaving one alone unless they find another worthy soul, maybe not the same kind of love but a companionship, a type of second love…could be wonderful. My Dad is 85 and missing his wife…he keeps with his routine, which adequately gets him through each day. Love pulls the heart strings. Enjoyed your poem, Jim!
