There are days when I just can't pray
My heart and soul feel like they're so cold
I can't reach out, penetrate the darkness
With a light from my dreams, a feeling
A belief in the hope God brings when He
Caresses the thoughts with His kindness
Blessings that come from such enlightenment!
There are moments when I can't cry out
To the One who holds my dreams in His palm
The One who paints the rainbow in the sky
The One who always reminds me just why
I must reach beyond my pain and find a way
To appeal to Him with my faith, my prayer
For serenity and sincerity, a wisdom, a chance
To listen to His reply and hope with a heart
That believes and agrees - He is the only way
He is the confirmation of my heart's faith
He is the whisper of kindness when I pray
He is the answer to every problem I've known
The resolution to every worry I might have
The verdict to every misgiving in my plan
There are times when I can't be sure why
I have been given this life - this insight
This joy and peace - wisdom and grace
This feeling that believes in this God
Who brings me through the darkest storms
The deepest tragedies, the horrors
The risks and sorrows and discouragements
The shame and despair, all the troubles
Sometimes so unfair - living on a prayer
That I might not even be able to voice
But, my heart speaks the need, the plea
There are times when I just can't reveal
The need that fills my spirit with a prayer
It is a gentle petition, summoning the Lord
With all His light and love - His majesty
As praise fills up my soul and I know, above all,
That He is the One who knows my heart
And I only need the thought - to assure
He will hear my entreaty and answer me
With a loving confirmation that I will always be
His child, His friend, His miracle from heaven!
There are times when I can't even pray
But even then, I can find the way to say
God is my Father and I praise Him alway!
