The Winds of Change

The winds of change Have swept through our tree of life And stripped the branches bare Naked limbs Resembling gnarled arms Reach for what used to be But is no longer there Left cold and alone Any remnants of love or happiness Has been thoroughly erased A twisted skeleton Of a once flourishing life Now stands in its place Dust settles on the surface Of the once lively Soul that used to be Cobwebs have become its Security blanket and dead Parasites and insects its company In a place named misery Though there is still a beat Of the heart, there is no drive No destination or purpose Just an empty shell That’s smells of Regret and sorrow Whose decaying bark Is just a symbolic reminder To our faded dreams Which no longer serves us Just a silent tomb Which echoes the sadness Of endless today’s And a forgotten tomorrows

Excellent description of one's life, the vagaries of it, the splendor of youth, wonder and love, but all to be lost and gone given up to encroaching illness and disease and one's inevitable demise.
