The Window

The Window She looks outside the window She sees color She sees light She sees freedom She sees a world She sees a world of dancers a world of dreams a world of laughter a world of joy She looks back to the inside She sees black and white She sees a uniform She sees unspoken rule of conformity She sees a repetition of the same person over and over She sees the people inside the people who do not look outside the people who do not wonder the people who just look forward She looks forward She sees nothing She sees a blank screen She sees everyone looking at nothing at all She sees the world of black and white and never gray She sees the world she lives in Yet there is nothing there are only blank faces nothing of substance resides in this world She looks out the window and wishes she would see herself She looks out the window and dreams She looks out the window and wonders She looks out the window, Yet she stays confined to her seat She looks out the window But doesn’t have the courage to leave She looks out the window one last time Before she turns her face back to the inside And soon she forgets the outside Soon she stops looking Soon she stops dreaming Soon she stops wondering And becomes black and white And outside the window the millions shade of gray dance in freedom in joy in laughter in dreams
