The Voice of Reason

The annoying voice of reason, it follows me around. I want to buy some trinket, it tells me "put it down". The voice of reason nags me even when I pay the bills. It's condescending tone of voice just gives me the chills. Minimum payment's thirty, so fifty's what I'll pay, but good old V.O.R. says pay it off, you've no need to play. The voice of reason says get your sleep, don't party all night long and karaoke is okay but don't stay 'til the very last song. The voice of reason gets louder the older that I get. I used to be able to ignore it, I miss those days and yet I find myself saying things to kids and grandkids too that doesn't sound like me at all, it sounds like you-know-who. In spite of all my objections, the voice of reason and I are starting to agree on things the more that time goes by. So now that I am older and rebellion is in the past l'll just give in and listen to the voice of reason at last. for Paula Swanson's 'Voice of Reason'contest 18/11/2011

In the 3rd set of lines you have a spelling error. I think you ment good not gold. OMG did you ever hit the nail on the head with this one. Being a baby boomer I've been there and done just that. Wonderful write.

Francine, A winner for sure. No offence but I believe that older people are way smarter than us young folks. I am 26 and have the most highest respect for Chef and you. How else can one learn if they do not listen to those who have "been there, done that. again I must Thank-you for giving the courage to follow a dream kenny

francine, I have to say. This one is my FAVORITE. (I started at the bottom and read them going up!) If I had tried to do this contest, I think I would have enjoyed doing one like this. It was the funnest one to read!

Nicely done, Francine. My VOR appears to be on mute - I don't do any of those "reasonable" things. Great work with the theme of this contest. And, as usual terrific rhyme and terrific use of words. Every now and then, turn a death ear to that annoying ol' voice. Joe

Dear Francine, another thing we have in common -- I've been hearing the "voice of reason" all my life, but I pay more attention to it now. Terrific entry for Paula's contest! Wishing you success. Love, Carolyn
