The Veteran

The Veteran (In Haiku Verse) I lost my poor soul In the jungle – in the sand Now I don’t fit in I walk down the streets No job, no home, no nothing Nobody sees me I’m begging for help For work, for lodging, for life Nobody hears me What have I become Where’s the me I used to be Didn’t he come back? I search and I search We were all there together Now I am alone I was in Albuquerque, NM and saw them on the street. They did not say a word to me but this is what I saw in their eyes. Mike

I have seen it over and over again with no end in sight. So sad. Jim Horn

This is truly heart wrenching! How can our country stand by and let this happen? You did an excellent job of capturing the emotions of these people. Love, KIm

Thank you Kim. I don't often do this kind of poetry but I woke up with the nagging thoughts and a few lines in my head and had to write them down.

Not my usual humorous poem. I haven't written commentaries on the world for years but this one just had to be written. Thank you so much of reading it and letting me know you liked it. Mike
