The Usual Suspects

Every day at quarter to four There is often a rush to the library door The ‘usual suspects’ are often there Sitting on a library chair They speak to the teacher who they have upset It may have been deliberate or even for a bet They could have been fighting, swearing or smoking When they arrive for their chat no one is joking Disturbing others, using their phone or often being late They will end up in the library - it’s not just down to fate Some may learn and try to refrain But the ‘usual suspects’ do it again and again After a short time their chat is over, and to the bus they run But I love to see the days when the library list shows ‘none’ Our staff they do a marvellous job to try and educate our youth Poor behaviour can stop this task, it is the sorry truth.

oh I'm sorry Cynthia I've only just read your comment - looking at the date I was very busy dealing with my father's affairs and getting mum settled in her care home. Nothing has changed with the behaviour of the kids:-(:-( hugs jan xx

Hi Jan, A delightful read and the story you told and the imagery took me there inside that library. I think long after those kids are grown, they will hold on to those teachers and librarians that made a difference in their lives. They may not make a sound of it but it'll be there:~) My friend this was a truly good read. Thanks for sharing with us. Love band Peace, Deborah

They change for the better when they leave school Deborah - its not the best place for all students - vocational courses would suit some much better. Hugs as ever Jan xxxx

Hey Jan, Thanks for your commit on my poem. I have found that the right words to some students leaves them in a state of perplexity- which I enjoy so much. My poem " Highly Intelligent Gluteus Maximus" is just a great way of identifying a SMART ASS. The smart kids or good students know what it means and usually laugh their heads off at the expense of the foolish kid who doesn't get it. Anyway, I love the befuddled look on their face.

As to your poem, I relate. We have a program call In-School- Suspension or ISS. Mr. Greer loves the first and last days of school, for he doesn't have any students. All the other days- well- he earns his money. Thanks for the visit. I'll keep a watch for your poems.

I just wish our system worked but sadly (in my eyes) it doesn't. Hugs Jan x

Reading this reminded me of Sidney Poitier in "To Sir With Love". Good descriptiveness and rhyming.

I was never the rebel type in school! Methinks they were much stricter way back then with steel ruler and such! They can't do that now!!! Brother Jack wishing you sweet dreams, dear Sis XOX

Hi Dear Brother Jack I so wish they would bring back proper discipline and suitable punishment like they did in our day when we had respect for the teachers and our peers. A 5 minute chat in the library and that's it - they should just say 'see you again tomorrow' lol love and hugs your cyber sister Jan

Thanks for the lovely comments Tim. Its actually quite a cynical poem showing our behavioral system at school doesn't work lol Same student's day in day out. Wasn't like it when i was at school was terrified of our teachers but then again discipline and family lives are so different now. Love and hugs Jan x
