The Unanswered Phone

You should have loved me As much as I loved you. You should have kissed me The way that I kissed you. You should have respected me With the respect I have for you. You should have been faithful to me As I always was with you. You should have talked to me When I cried and begged you to. You should have asked me to stay When I left and said we’re through. But you did not. So, the phone rings on and on. And I ignore it without a thought. Because, for you, I’ll always be gone.
