The Truth
The truth stood downcast in the lie
With mangled wings and sorry beak
A torrent of tear drops in its eye
Claws stuck-fast in a quagmire bleak
With quivering nape and trembling crown
The truth stood downcast in the lie
Perplexed, uncertain, heart cast down
Its trill sank to a woeful sigh
Away from help, despite its cry
And sinking deeper, to its breast
The truth stood downcast in the lie
And thought about its homely nest
A past voice haunts its mind to say
"Remember you were born to fly"
Its song resumed; gone was the day
The truth stood downcast in the lie
