The Thought of It
I am trying to write a poem for May you see,
But I have a mental block so I'll rest to take tea.
And while I'm resting perhaps a thought or two will occur
In my mind's eye; or away with the fairies if you prefer.
It's not easy writing a poem when words don't come to mind
So I'm sitting [ no actually I'm kneeling ] thinking of words to find.
I've tried the sea, the mountains and even the lakes,
Oh! how I wish words would come for goodness sake!
There are so many things one could write about,
For instance gentlemen in bars drinking their stout
Or women at home looking after the children, doing the chores,
Going to church on Sundays then going off to the stores.
Going for a picnic down winding leafy lanes,
Perhaps taking to flight on Continental aeroplanes.
Going for a ride on horseback, galloping along,
Even orating at Hyde Park Corner to the throng.
There are so many things that one could do and say.
Aha! Go to the seaside on a lovely May spring day
And eat ice creams galore walking along the shore
Now that would be n'ice, let's buy some more.
