The Tail of a Dream
I’m trying to catch my father’s
Before I can reach mother’s
One is a teacher and the other a nurse,
But of course I’m neither, just a mess
I awoke on the tail of their dream
Up to my ankles in a cold, shallow stream
Barefoot, sleep walking through the inheritence forest
Blind, in a splash of horror and thick frost
Reality struck, when we were born at the crack dawn
The pounding of our feet chasin' them down
We're now men, our innocence weaned with the breast
We're leaving their dream, on our own nightmares to feast
Now a beast, I drown before jumping back into bed
I could see their tail as I lay down my head
Our fathers are nowhere to be found
This was to make our mothers proud
