Image result for pictures of someone in a swampI had a great uncle when I was a child who lived until my late teens. He was the black sheep of the family(I suppose). I have posted a short story about him as well.

Unkie, my friend or foe At night with a pin he'd stick me So he said; in his bed With him I did not sleep Had my own bed_no dread Unkie, my friend or foe Had a curved walking cane One hand was unusable He had harsh attitude He's so confusable Unkie, my friend or foe He had a bad sore leg He got burned in a wreck Running his homemade shine That was his one paycheck Unkie, my friend or foe Could be soft and loving Helped me out of the swamp When the swamp monster ate My shoes__ socks with one chomp

Anne-Lise, yes, we do judge by behavior, dress, adornments, accessories, etc. Sometimes those that are dressed to draw attention are very unusual to downright dangerous and sometimes it is hard to distinguish between what is safe and what will get you hurt or killed. Thanks for stopping by. Sara K

Quite an interesting story. I am sure it is fictional...! Perhaps you had an uncle whom you didn't like initially, but who turned out to be your savior later. I am sure he will stay green in your memory creating mixed emotions of dread and thankfulness.

Well, Valsa, he definitely was my great uncle. He was my adopted father's daddy's brother. LOL..He was a character. I don't know in what order the horrible things happened to him, but he had a rough life. I posted a story about him on here. Sara K

Oh wow, this is such a profound and unique poem from you, dear Sara! It conveys amazing skills of storytelling and reflects your uncle's persona in a deep meaningful essence.. Especially, how you've described that he would be a lil distant but later in years, proves to be a helping soul.. A very interesting write, indeed and your memories of him speak of his intriguing aura. Beautifully crafted tribute! Sending many best wishes and love your way. :)

Andrea, I don't know what he had been through in his life, but I am sure it wasn't a life like we would expect today. I am thinking maybe he was an abused child. I wrote a short story about him and it is posted on here. Sara K

Seems like he was one of a kind. No wonder he still occupies your memories, Sara. A fine tribute to Unkie.

SO, Unkie was one of a kind with that being a bad side, but he also was soft and would help me out if he could. He gave me the curved end of the cane and pulled me out of the swamp(sticky mud) then got my shoes out as well. Thank you for stopping by. Sara K
