The Supreme Court

Can the world be made better by stacking our Courts With immoderate friends that we trust share our views? Is Court’s dignity served, are its verdicts revered, Does it mean I’m ‘supreme’ when a fluke helps my side? Is a ‘litmus test bias’ the justice we want In a nation where man’s views, not God’s, rule the land. Can my God be your God? We draw lines in the sand!’ We might want to know God, but most grok, it’s not true! It is rare a man travels alone by canoe, ‘Two’ means safety’s enhanced when life’s more than we’ve planned For, one man can get swamped by expanding demand! Just a family’s problems can call for detente And how much more a nation’s desires thwart a tide When the nation’s size matters, and justice looks geared! Do the richest amongst us delineate news, Should we wonder minorities, poor aren’t good sports? Can you claim to be civil or patriot when You abuse each advantage, claim God’s on your side? When your thumb’s on the scale, is it justice you serve? With the poor paying taxes, the rich praising gas, Corporations (the rich own) bribe lawyers for laws That both shelter Corp’s gains, and send jobs overseas, Are we Christians who drive the earth’s meek to their knees And applaud, as we do it, the One Percent’s greed? Let me curse what fools do as I pray they get freed When they proudly seem stuck in their dark harmonies! If you feel your bowels churning in depths of unease And you see the world poisoned because of your flaws, Be aware it’s ‘the humble,’ God’s Word gives a pass! Please don’t let my good wishes here throw you a curve! Join with Paul in admitting you struggle with pride, (And with Jesus) both counsel abandoning sin! Long Tooth March 8th in 2020
