The Stray
She took me for a walk today
whilst off the lead I met a stray
"how's about you come and play
with me but wait, don't run away".
"I'm not prepared, I'm very scared
I'm living on the streets".
Oh don't do that, we've got a flat
ground floor and very neat.
"That's very kind, I'm going blind
can't see my way at all".
(My luck is in), "you're very thin"
"last meal I can't recall".
No problem there as you can share
my dinner everyday.
"You really would? I really should
be grateful come what may".
Then say no more and to my door
together we will scurry.
Look forward to the day when you
will never need to worry.
"My gratitude cannot exclude
your master and mistress
If not for you and those two too
I'd be in much more distress".
We reached the car, I'd wandered far
away from where we'd parked.
"Where have you been? Oh,he's so lean".
She wasn't all that narked.
My mistress put upon the mutt
her hand and stroked his head.
She may say "no, he'll have to go"
to the pound or worse, instead.
"you poor poor boy now don't be coy
I'll take you home with us.
I'll feed you up, just like a pup.
You'll share a bed with Gus........ that's me that is!
Happy Ending.
