The Stranger

She's there Staring straight at me Her eyes filled with emptiness I've seen her before Yet she is unrecognisable She's here everyday Always the same No expression or word does she utter Just looks and stares What does she want? Why is she here? Time after time Year after year A troubled aura surrounds her I hold her gaze Leaning in closer desperately trying to catch glimpse Of who she is and what troubles her so Our eyes locked No break or waver Suddenly I shudder... Instantly she does the same Startled I step back Instantly she does the same I scratch my head Confused and dazed Instantly she does the same Looking around Can anyone see? Who is this stranger looking at me? I lean in again And soon I see The stranger I'm looking at Would appear that it's me
