The Spirit of Christmas

Why do some want Christmas to be everyday? Do they not see the beauty of that one perfect day? Do they not realize how life would become If everyday was just another bright Christmas morn? Or perhaps these people are wiser than most. Do they see something the rest of us don’t? Could there be some secret hidden within The good-will towards others and peace among men? I’m certain many of you would have to agree That there’s something to Christmas besides just the tree The stockings, the manger, the candy, the wine, The smiles, the presents are all very fine . . . But just what is Christmas aside from these things? Aside from the holiday December brings Christmas proves there is goodness in all So why after Christmas does the magic not call? Perhaps what makes each Christmas have reason Has nothing to do with the Holiday season Maybe the source of each Christmas past Is the people behind it; why can’t their cheer last? The week after Christmas, the smiles will fade The turkey, the egg-nog, the Christmas parade The holidays are over and work will resume Bringing in people dripping with gloom. But I challange you to keep Christmas living All year around don’t cease in your giving Good tidings and blessing will come unto you If you keep the spirit, maybe others will too. A new world could surface out of this cheer As more people dry their last little tear We cannot make everyday perfect But if we try our efforts will be worth it. This year the spirit doesn’t have to die On the wings of good people, it can forever fly With millions of people stuck in full drive The Christmas spirit truly needs to survive.
