The Sound of the Prairies

wheat at its finest. long before the cut of blade and grinding of teeth – it sings through clear wind – rolling waves, soft in their hush raising old ones souls, ingraining lifetimes upon the wanderer’s skin – raising hairs on necks – recognizing sound as it is meant to be heard – wheat is heeded wind. always, wheat whispers hush…(the heart of prairie grass) through the mouth of wind.

Beautiful poem with a wonderful use of imagery. Best wishes in the contest. I feel bad for all you family with the water problems. Our home has remained dry. Others in the area haven't been so luck. Thank you for your concern and for your kind comments. Keep up the good writing. Have a wonderful week. Karen

...."Your Priceless Souls" beliefs in reincarnation perhaps!?!?:):)~And I love "Your" opening stanza here~for it seems a statement of the purities of a pure life, before it becomes tainted amid the environment from which it is subject within part unto...."Beautiful & Soulful Write Kristin!!!":):)~"My Love Always To 'You & Your Loves, Forever, John!!!":):)~Lets go view another of "Your Gems"....

Beautifully lyrical. That first stanza is excellent capturing the begining and end of food production. I like that the first lines of each stanza have an 'i' sound that dominates. It gives the narrative a bell ringing feel to it but it also drives the poem onwards. that is a clever device, because the narrative is concerned with produce (and progress?). The sounds are there to be heared rather than described, handing the work over to the reader. As it should be!
