The Siren Song

The Siren often sings to me A mournful gypsy sound Her beauty is a melody Of riches that abound She sings of love and lucidly Her language is a thrill To make our modest misery A mansion on a hill The colors of a tree comply Before the Fall is fled To justify the reason why The leaves are turning red Oh Siren, daughter of the sea Thy song, a lover’s kiss Thy slaughter is the ecstasy Of every sad remiss So many men are dreaming still The fortune of their lies They cannot fill the raging will That feeds on their demise Oh Siren, stir, the magic cure That means your love is free And please be sure, that your allure Is peaceful after me.

For fear, Bryan, of repeating myself, I'm forever scratching my head as to why your brilliant rhyming, pacing, cadence (call it what you will) does not garner lots more views and comments. Poetry Soup has me forever questioning what makes good poetry on here. Well, in my book, this poem does for starters. Keep writing them and I'll keep reading them.. Cheers - Gary
