The Silent Horses
The Silent Horses
We have reached the land
Of the silent horses
Where all dead horses
Tell the agile living horses
To live in quietude.
We have breached the timeless norms
Of our ancestors and have allowed
Feminine snakes to eat boiled eggs
In the presence of the gigantic elephant.
We have chosen the wrong culture and served wine to servants in the
Gathering of wild lions in the forests.
An ideal father controls his household-
A male bird doesn't lay eggs
A mother hen does
She oughtn't boast of her ability to hatch chicken
That alone isn't enough
She must emulate the life
of a real mother -train and bring up
Her young ones in the beautiful rhythm
Of African lore
To her husband she must give
Happiness and comfort.
This tradition has existed since Adam
But some have not kept the faith
A mysterious enigma in African tales
Herein lies broken
And the storyteller's guitar
String torn.
Should we refuse to heed
To the voices
Of the silent horses?
