The Shadows All Around

Your shadow looms all around me A reminder of what we were The haunting chill of you Follows me wherever I go It's the quiet whisper of your voice Not truly there But not letting me go Blocking out any light that could shine on me Your dark lonely presence changes me Making me a shadow of my former self Drifting through existence Darkening the doorways Trying to reclaim my life Instead, I am stuck in a land of shadows Clinging to the outline of you The darkened traces of what we were The cold shadowing of what we had The irrational hope that you'll come back The fear that your shadow is all I'll ever have And I'll be always trapped in it's cold lonely gloom
