The Shadow Box

Locked inside a viewing case My heart is on display For everyone to see the bruises And see all the many abuses A broken can convey A passerby would probably notice A few parts still in tact Hardly recognized amongst the tattered Pieces that have been shattered From the fury of my past People used to say Look how beautiful and strong It's so consistent in its beating Never thinking it would be leading Down a path that could be wrong You wouldn't know that now It's frozen in its case Hardly moving, barely there But if you took the time to stare You would see something not taken at face Still amongst the weary Heart that once was strong A small beat can be seen And it has a certain gleam That has been there all along
