The Secret of Serenity
must lie in possibility--no wonder
Tillich saw that that alone is God,
for He lurks far beyond
a faith that follows formula,
beyond the trials and the smiles
that plague the heart with
stables, hallowed hills and angels
dancing for delighted eyes.
No wonder there is weariness.
No wonder faith offends
for it attends
an errant scholarship,
a forced conformity and being,
thus prescribed
and sealed away from every dawn
of light.
Being so defined can never be serene.
It takes another kind of courage
to let go, let in the mind
that dares to breathe a wind
we never knew before, a cosmic wind,
content to teach that love
is not the easy thing to do;
it must be everything.
With it all, one secret--there
upon the tablet of the mind.
There lies true bravery
that would-be heroes seek
but rarely find:
the courage just to Be!
