The Sadness of Summer

We often think of dark winter days Cold, grey and shivering But I think summer has its own sadness Hidden within the warm breeze Winter, although it brings us down Like the snow from the clouds It's a time of celebration It gives us purpose and happiness Whether or not you believe It's still a time of joy and peace Summer, although it brings us warmth Time, a tan, relaxation It gives me room to ponder What to do with myself I wonder, What can I do for fun in summer? I struggle to answer the question That begging question What to do today? The days feel both long and short An endless cycle of sun Wondering what to do for fun Then the night, knowing it's all gone Am I the only one?

Thank you for your comment, Faraz. This poem is more about not knowing what to do during summer rather than staying out of the sun, but I like your interpretation. I will have a look at some of your poems now
