The Road

We are all born on the road Knowing with each breath We are doomed, each to repeat And go ourselves to death How we walk and tread that road Is more important than How we died or where we were And, did we live as men? Think you then of how you live And how you treat each other Try hard to care for every man As if he were your brother. Do not be too vain or proud Or think you are the best For someone else will always be Prepared to take that test You need ever be prepared and set To defend the weak and low Against the force of evil then To battle you will go The Road to hell I’ve heard them say Is paved with good intention So watch your way and be secure From things I need not mention Do you then the things of good That raise your fellow man Improve the life of all you meet And do the best you can You will not be blamed for the things You tried and did not win You do not quit and run away Get on that horse again
