The old man looked a little out of place Astride his pony on the carousel A smile from yesterday across his face As if he were entranced in some strange spell A silver knight upon a silver steed A cowboy riding herd out on the range The little boy inside had been set free Between the up and down, we watched him change And when it stopped he sat there deep in thought He pulled the little boy in with a sigh A memory is what his dollar bought I'm sure the price was not what made him cry

This is refreshing. Brings back my own memory. At the Prospect Park carousel, too many times I 'fell in' on a horse that was stationary. When I had enough of disappointment, I alet while spinning, hoping to get a new chance. I made my way to the edge holding poles while the operator stopped the ride, and while the surrounding crowd kept on warning, "Don't go off until it stops!" I was given a new round on an up-and-down one.

Well, I just deleted my comment by mistake, lol - the rigors of trying to learn my way "around" here, and while it was much nicer than this will be, please know that I find this poem extraordinary and exquisite, and if I could, an EIGHT! I had to "fav" it ... congrats on this honor, Daniel!

Returned today to read for pleasure, again. Such things - here, the crying - seem sad, yet in the great bargain and balance of all things I think they are worthwhile.

Sometimes, growing old and the realization that those days will never come again can be very sad. Thank you again, Doug:)

Congratulatons, Danny, mostly on writing such a great poem. You were inspired, and it's perfect! O7 <~~ that is supposed to look like a salute, the "O" being the body with the "7" being the bent arm and hand. : )

It's better than the one finger salute I usually get:) Thank you, Doug:)

What's cool about this is how you chopped the rhythm pace in each line from quick at the beginning and then methodical at the end, it gave it a real authentic carousel feel. POTW? Attaboy!

This is a great poem, Daniel! I love the inner vision you illume in this beautiful poem. So many people are chained to their age. Never letting themselves be young, stay young, think young at times. You dispelled that notion very well in this thought provoking poem. Much love and respect to you, brother.
