The Rhyming Gene

While cleaning a closet, I came across An envelope which held Report cards from first grade on up, The proof that I’d excelled. Yet stuck between the cards I found A little penciled note In writing that I recognized And this is what she wrote: “Your closet needs cleaning, I’m sure you can tell So talk on the phone less time to your Ell.* Throw out the old things, cards, letters, shoes, too. I’m sure there are some things you’ll keep – a few. The rest of your room is as neat as a pin. Clean out your closet – then the world can look in.” This message from my mom, a poem Reminded me today That rhyming surely came to me Within my DNA. *Elliot, my high school boyfriend

My mom told me about two poems kids put in her yearbook. When I'm dead and almost rotten grab a spoon and come a trottin', and Don't worry if your grades are low and your rewards are few, just remember that the mighty oak was once a nut like you. I thought that was cool and started doing it myself!..Thanks for the chuckle........80)

How funny! I think is neat that she took the time to write a verse. Thanks for sharing.

Oh how marvellous to find that note, rhyming is definitely in your genes as it is in mine as i knew my aunt and uncle wrote witty poetry but never knew my mum and maternal grandma wrote until after my dad died when I was finally able to tell mum about my hubbies cancer and that I had started writing.... and I still have untidy cupboards as I am loathe to get rid of things:-) hugs Jan xx
