The Restaurant Health Inspection

The Restaurant Health Inspection By Elton Camp For the manager of the Greasy Spoon The health inspector came too soon The employees heard him say, “Eek!” Then, “You aren’t due until next week!” The inspector, with a wry grin Proceeded to walk right on in The manager turned pale in his face Knowing his cafe was a disgrace Mice were scurrying everywhere With their dropping here and there The dishwasher water wasn’t hot And the cabbage was about to rot The refrigerator read sixty degrees Filthy floors were worse than these Roaches were nibbling food on a plate The milk was past its expiration date The restrooms didn’t have any soap As for hot water, that’s also a nope “It’s too bad for you that I came around For this place is officially shut down!” “Tell your customers now to leave And that no bill will they receive”

In the decades when I worked at the college, I had many students who held part-time jobs in cafes. Because I taught microbiology, they would sometimes describe the horrible things that took place out of sight of the customers. It's a good thing we have immune systems!
