Smack me with your caffeine stick, Hit me out of the park, From the sleepy mire thick, You kindle my life's spark. A cuppa joe or just a cuppa, Breakfast, lunch and even suppa, Grind your beans into my brain, Take away the mortal pain. Decaf - such a dirty word, I pity those from whom it's heard, With a bun or coffee roll, Bless you, cup, you've saved my soul. Mocha java dirty mud, I'd rather have you as my blood, Now that I can actually think, Do your due, brew me some ink. Brashly dark, not creamy soft, Raise my flattened mind aloft, I take you hot, no need for ice, Show me shores of paradise.

Good Day Doug. The ink can rescue a life. When a writer composes he heals when a reader experiences the authors words he heals. You marvelously expressed and executed that. Now about that coffee (lol) I say pass the regular please so while in the realm of entries it can be the icing on the cake. And yes, it is for me. I have the coffee ready by 530am. Have a wonderful day. Thank you for sharing. Well done

Ha! Hi Deb - say hello to Snoopy for me; always did like him. Indeed, tea and coffee are quite different - lord help me if I had to do without either one.

Thanks, Agnes. Yes, pretty much a sure thing on that coffee. ; ) I will also say that just thinking about such beverages is a 'high' in its own right.

This possesses such an excellent flow, and constantly you're blending just the right amount of humor and transcribing an essential, deeper emotion that strengthens this brew (pardon the puns, I could not resist). Kudos, Doug--this is a fine, clever piece.

Oh Doug was a great homage to the persuasions and comfort of the drink of the gods, and the insistent energy it can afford to both the exalted and the minor sort. Having been in the sway of caffeine from my distant youth I can certainly verify the truth of this excellent and reverential praise.

Can I say, this poem is good to the last drop, or would that be too corny? :) This was fun Doug and really hit the spot. A nice tribute to the nectar of morning.
