The Redbud Tree

By tradition, Judas hung himself on a redbud tree. For centuries the Cercis siliquastrum has been called the “Judas tree.” As Judas hung on the tree, the tree’s white flowers turned red because the tree was ashamed that the betrayer of Christ died on it. The origin of this legend is unknown; however, many Israeli gardens, e.g., Neot Kedumim and Jerusalem Botanical Garden, associate the Cercis siliquastrum with Judas Iscariot.

The Redbud Tree Judas Tree or Flowering Judas The darkest hours come to a close All- inclusive clouds cover the crescent moon and stars, Families at rest in their dwellings, waiting for the morn All will awake to inconsolable news I walk the dusky, dusty road with so much despair in my core, My anguish for my transgression Without being noticed, I leave in a lurch To the countryside My head hangs downwards in hopelessness Because of a kiss my soul bleeds from the betrayal An anvil of desperation, my spirit is bursting My sin unforgiving Vile, foul night air, the gloom of loneliness I finally cannot endure I've got to do something to stop the ache of my transgression A tree I see in the vestiges of the dark I approach and sit by the roots of the dark shadow Redbud tree My remembrance of what I want to suppress I've got to stop this bleeding of pain in my soul, no more I can handle I take the rope from around my waist Put one end around the limb of the shadow Redbud tree The other around my neck and kneel Ending this broken heart and suffering I bear By: Eve Roper 1/23/2015 Luke 22 - The Last Supper; Jesus Is Betrayed When Judas saw that Jesus was condemned, he was filled with remorse. Thank you, Michael, I try very hard to do research before I write something. Why I wrote about Judas I don't know. I just know at the time it was like I had to.

Not a usual read for me but it's interesting how you were able to put into words what Judas must have been thinking at that particular moment. What he felt was remorse, not repentance. Well-written, dear Eve. Congrats! hugs!

oh my goodness, and you really portrayed that great sadness that must have flooded his being. I did not recall the name of the tree. It is a cool poem to make us remember this huge betrayal but also the emotions of the sad sinner.

Thank you for your wonderful inspiring compliment, Andrea. Judas Hung Himself on a Redbud Tree or later the Judas tree. It was said the blooms were white until Judas decide to commit suicide. Blessings dear friend eve

Well done, Eve!!! This is beautiful! I have always found it hard to accept the fact that Judas lost his soul....he was sorry for what he did, more than any normal sinner, and I still believe that as that noose tightened, he made peace with the Lord. // Have a lovely weekend. // paul

WOW! What a incredible write, Eve. I've often felt sorry for Judas. Had he expressed true remorse, he would have been forgiven, as was Peter. You gave us an amazing peek into the thoughts that might have been churning in his mind. Fantastic.

I often thank God that judgment belongs to him. I can trust in his fairness and mercy...He sees what we cannot. I read in Desire of Ages, a book about the life of Christ, that as Jesus was washing Judas' feet, his heart cry was..."How can I give thee up?" Hugs

Thank you, Eileen. I had a 5th grade student one day say that he would not want to sit near Judas because of his betrayal of Jesus. I explained that Jesus knew that he was going to betray him, but still loved him, my explanation made a difference to his insight. Like you I always wondered how he felt because I know I would not be able to coup with the guilt.
