The Real Me

I want to show you the real me, Not just what you think you see, I like to dress in black, not pink, My dark poems will make you think, I can't always be happy like you, For I am sad, and often blue, My soul was dying to break free, To be the person I wanted to be, I have hid my true self for many years, While deep inside, crying many tears, But, now I am showing the real me, And you are just starting to see, I'm emerging in the dark poetry I write, The difference is like day and night.

Thank you for reading this "oldie", Justin. It was one of the first poems that I posted on The Soup.... Passion is essential in poetry, and life in general. I think that I would die inside, if I didn't experience those powerful, emotional feelings.

Thank you for your kind words, Paul. I was very touched by them....When I first came to Poetry Soup, I was writing a lot of darker poems, like this one. But, lately my poetry has become lighter and not so serious. I'm glad that you can except me for who I am. :)

Oooh, this one is really dark. Do you write based on your feelings, or sometimes imagine a situation and write about it? I am usually in the imagination mode.

I think a little bit of both. I didn't have the perfect life when I was growing up, so, I think some of my darker stuff comes from there...which is hidden deep inside somewhere, but, occasionally it comes out.
