The Quarter On the Track

It was just a simple quarter the child placed there that day Upon the busy railroad track and left it there to stay. The sound of coming freight train soon filled the quiet sky; The child watched it in wonder as it came swiftly by. Then off into the distance to a destination far, The train kept on its travel and left behind the scar-- A flattened silver quarter, no longer to be spent, And then the curious child up to the quarter went. He looked it carefully over, designs had all been crushed Except one simple message: the words IN GOD WE TRUST. The lessons from this story of the quarter there that day We should store in our memory for when trouble comes our way. For money soon may fail us, our leaders go astray, But God will not forsake us and not turn us away. When life's train runs us over and by trials we are crushed, Like Job, let's look to heaven and say IN GOD WE TRUST.
