The Potato Eaters

Noses all upturned the potato eaters sit beneath a lamp suspended from out of the gloom. Van Gogh's search for inner light began with the Dutch peasants. ~~~~~~~~ for Abe Lopez contest ~~~~~~~~ Van Gogh's "The Potato Eaters" a choka in 5-7-7-5-7-7

Ah, a tale about one of Vincent Van Gogh's famous paintings. Well, Dutch peasants may consider themselves potato eaters but for this Filipino who just planed in from France, I'm a bit more modern: I consider myself simply a French fry eater!!! It's just the same damn potato!!! LOL Regards, Fred (PS By the way, though it comes rather late, thanks, Sue, for your thoughts. I do appreciate it very much.)

Sue, I wrote a poem about this poem too awhile back. Good art reaches out to others as this one did to us. Love the last two lines in this poem. I enjoyed your response of "lilliputian lyricism" to my blog question. It shows you are so creative. Good luck in the contest. Karen

Wonderful and expressive work in the choka form, Sue! I appreciate the way you revisit the artwork as if seeing it for the first time, allowing us to glimpse the simple within the complex. Warm regards, John.
