The Portrait of Love

The painting hung meticulously upon the parlor wall He would stare at it for hours each night upon his return A piece of him went with her that day she left this earth Yet, he smiled in knowing that love carried on, eternally He would stare at it for hours each night upon return As it was his way of unwinding, unraveling the day Her beautiful smile lit his heart and his fragile mood He remembered the sun, the moon, her gentle ways A piece of him went with her that day she left this earth For since that horrid day he was never quite as complete He never thought he’d get through, be able to move on For without her, he originally thought love to be deplete Yet, he smiled in knowing that love carried on, eternally He found he was able to carry her within him, each new day He may love again, someone, some other time, perhaps As for now, she is with him and forever will she stay

This sounds almost like an old movie I remember "Portrait of Jenny" ...(old black & white)....so melancholy and sad. Well done! So heart breaking!~ Carrie

What a wonderful piece. It is loving and tender. Oh, to have a love so true. This is something we all seem to seek yet few of us truly find. While this brings a smile a tear can be shed for true love as this is so rare. Thank you for sharing your lovely writing. Smiles from Lolita
