The Perfect Christmas Gift
The most perfect gift I ever received
Was very real and not perceived
It was given me so long ago
I feel honored it was bestowed
It did not come with a bow or wrap
It had no buttons, ties or snaps.
It had no box no tape nor tag
It did not come in a Santa bag.
It was not placed beneath our tree
Though it was received with glee
It was not hung in my Christmas stocking
It does keep coming without stopping
The gift you see was of family
The twelve of us including me
My parents teaching us of togetherness
That would bring lifelong happiness
That our true gifts were in each other
With all my sisters and my brothers.
For whatever material things we gather
They in the long run do not matter.
Your family is your perfect gift
The passage of time is much too swift
So look not underneath your tree
But in your heart and you will see!
