The Passing of My Granny New

I deeply loved, my granny New, The first to show me, she loved me too, I remember in, my childhood days, Together we had, very special ways, To pass the hot, hot summer days. We would go swimming, In big Piney creek, Tho some of her instructions were a bit weak, Don’t get into that water M, Un till you learn to swim, That was one, of her special gems! After awhile, being fully out on a limb, I remember a funny reply, from my uncle Jim! Don’t sneak, A leak, While your in the creek, For I’ll box your cheek, Mocking my granny, She’s say, I’ll whip your fanny, Now that was my granny! We were shore, poor, In those good old days, But my granny had special ways, she says, Poverty stricken, I reckon, But we had a plenty, of pig bacon, Sometimes, no way to make it, And we would not fake it, So to the Lord we would take it, And God would not forsake it, So that’s how we’d make it! Granny was know for her fried chocolate pies, And I am here to tell you guys, She would make and bake, And they were not, store bought fake, And her fried chicken, Finger licking, A slander, To sander! Now many years have come and gone, But granny’s love I’ll remember long, She was 79, when her love song left, With the soul of herself, Now of earth there’s, nothing of her left! But her love is stored, And I know it’s not bored, With the master Love, Who is above! There was a vision she told me just before she left, Seeking some guidance for herself, Two beautiful hands, With a beautiful golden wedding band, On the left hand, Reaching down from above, I said it’s your husband of love, Jesus Christ from above, She said , I’ll be, Yes that’s right, now I see, My husband to be! Her soul of love left, out of body asleep, Not a peep, from this love sheep, She joined Father love, who is able to keep, Without a seep, The sheep, Of his pastor! 6-9-09 johnmosesfreeman@yahoo.com

I loved my Gram. Her mother knew me, but she died when I was three. I lost my Gram in 1985. She helped raise me. I wrote about her in McMullen's Meats and Capital Trail. I never knew my other two grandmothers. Aunt Mae my mother's adopted mother died when I was 3 also. My kids have an Uncle Jim, my husband's brother. I really liked your poem. Ellen
